Music
Songs, cantatas, unfinished operas and piano music including 27 Etudes, 8 sonatas (2 unpublished). Of these Op. 18 is interesting in that it consists of 3 movements (15 pages), and is entirely based on the notes - c,b,c,e,d,c. Also interesting is his Op. 7 sonata, which resembles Beethoven’s sonata Pathétique.
Life
He was noticed and admired by Clementi in 1804, who took him to St. Petersburg. There he was much influenced by John Field. He was in London from 1812 to 1815 when he returned to Berlin, where he stayed until his death. His pupils included Mendelssohn, Henselt, Taubert and A.G. Ritter.
