Music

He is best remembered (if at all) as a composer of organ music (including 4 sonatas). He also wrote (circa 1850) 4 sonatas for pianoforte. The 3rd (D major op20), and the 4th (B minor op21) are major works which deserve to be known and played today. The music is difficult to find, but copies exist in the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin.

Life

The first part of his life was spent in Erfurt and Berlin. He was taught the piano chiefly by Hummel and by Mendelssohn’s teacher Ludwig Berger of Berlin. Later he was appointed organist in Magdeburg, north west of Dresden.
