Biography
Siegfried Wagner was the son of Richard Wagner and Cosima von Bülow, the daughter of Franz Liszt . He studied music with Engelbert Humperdinck and Julius Kniese. From 1896 onwards, he started to conduct at Bayreuth and elsewhere in Germany. He was the artistic director of the Bayreuth festival 1908–30.
Siegfried Wagner was also a productive opera composer. In fact, he composed more operas than his father! The most successful works were Der Bärenhäuter, Der Kobold and Der Schmied von Marienburg.
Siegfried was married to Winifred Williams Klindworth (1897–1980) who was the leader of the Bayreuth festival during the Third Reich. They had four children, Wieland (1917–66), Friedelind (1918–91), Wolfgang (1919–) and Verena (1920–).
