Wagner’s grandson dies at 90 [posted 23 March 2010]
Last Sunday, Wolfgang Wagner, grandson of Richard Wagner, has died. He was leader of the Bayreuth opera festival for more than half a century, until 2008. From 1951 till 1966 he did this together with his brother Wieland, who died in that last year. Wolfgang Wagner was also the great grandson of Liszt.
In 2008 he handed over the leadership of the Bayreuth festival, after a lot of quarreling, to his daughter Katharina and her half sister Eva.
Wagner's Villa Wahnfried to be renovated [posted 23 June 2009]
The German government has announced that it will invest €500,000 for the renovation of Richard Wagner's former house. Villa Wahnfried is situated in the city of Bayreuth in South Germany.
In Villa Wahnfried there is also a museum as well as an archive about Wagner. Museum director Sven Friedrich said that museum will be extended with an exhibition about the arguable role the Wagner family played in Nazi-Germany.
