Music
Wilhelm Popp wrote over 600 compositions, mainly salon music for flute and piano. He often got his inspiration from music from far-away countries.
Because he wrote many studies and etudes, he was also called “Czerny of the flute”.
Life
The German flutist and composer Wilhelm Popp was a pupil of Louis Drouet and Kaspar Kummer, both flutist, composer and conductor at the court of his native city. From 1867, after he became court pianist in Coburg, he also became first flutist at the Hamburg Philharmonic orchestra.
He performed mainly under the pseudonym of “Henry Alberti”.
