Futile Search!

I've been trying to find study scores, or any scores, of the 13 Miaskovsky string quartets, which are absolutely first rate, without success. This great composer has fallen out of sight, like Zemlinsky a few years ago, and like him needs a revival. Especially since the music is so relatively accessible, even for Americans!

Music

27 symphonies, 13 string quartets, 9 piano sonatas, a Violin Sonata, 2 Cello Sonatas, a Violin Concerto, Cello Concerto, 3 sinfoniettas for string orchestra, symphonic poems, overtures, piano pieces and songs.

Life

Studied under Glière. Close friend and fellow-student of Prokofiev, teacher of many Soviet composers including Kabalevsky, denounced by Zhdanov and Khrennikov at the 1948 Congress of the Soviet Composers’ Union for the sin of ‘formalism’ along with Shostakovich and Prokofiev. Posthumous Stalin Prize for his Symphony No.27.
