Nació en Mercedes, provincia de Buenos Aires. Estudió con D’Anillo y Edmundo Pallemaerts y, más tarde, en París asistió a los cursos que dictaba el eminente Vincent D’Indy, con quien se perfeccionó en composición. Luego de sus estudios en Europa, regresó a Buenos Aires y estrenó en 1924, con la dirección de Clemens Krauss, el poema sinfónico En la paz de los muertos, obra premiada por la Asociación del Profesorado Orquestal y que al cabo de unos años volvió a ser dirigida por el maestro Alfredo Casella. En 1928 estrenó la ópera Frenos, y en 1936, La ciudad roja. Fue director del Conservatorio Municipal e integró el directorio del teatro Colón entre 1938–1941.
