Composer and conductor Henri Hermans died in Maastricht in 1947. He conducted the Maastrichts Stedelijk Orkest (Maastricht Town Orchestra), precursor of the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest. The statue was made by Charles Vos and Jean Huysmans in 1948.
