composers
The imposing Walhalla was inaugurated in 1842 as counterpart of the Parisian Pantheon. The first busts devoted to composers refer to Händel, Gluck, Haydn (“Heyden”) and Mozart; plaques for Hildegard von Bingen, Vogelweide and Wolfram. Later followed Beethoven (1866), Wagner (1913), Bach (1916), Schubert (1928), Bruckner (1937, unveiled by Hitler!), Reger (1948), R. Strauss (1973), Weber (1978). Interesting history of appreciations! Visit is rewarding.
