Classical Composers Database News
New composer articles
Dear %3% (%2%),
Valuable user contributions
From the start of this web site (in 1995!) the visitors have always been a valuable source of new information, and it would be impossible to pay attention to all new entries sent to me by you all.
However, in this newsletter I will introduce you to the valuable contributions of one person.
Interesting new biographies
Dr. David Wright from England has sent me some remarkable articles lately. They include several biographies of some well-known as well as some lesser-known composers.
In his articles, Dr. Wright shows that he has carefully listened to the music of the composers he writes about, and that he has also done a lot of research about their lives.
Apart from giving much factual information, he is also not afraid to give his very personal opinion regarding the composers' music and personalities. This makes all of his stories an interesting read.
I can recommend these biographies to you! While reading Dr. Wright's articles, I always felt the urge to listen to the unknown music he describes, or re-listen to the music I thought I knew already.
Here are some of the composers which have contributions by Dr. Wright:
- Felix Mikhailovich Blumenfeld
- Johannes Brahms
- Edward Elgar
- Irving Fine
- Walter Niemann
- Henryk Pachulski
- Albert Roussel
- Viktor Ullmann
- Anton Webern
- Joseph Wihtol [Jāzeps Vītols]
A full overview of his articles can be found here: http://www.classical-composers.org/user/7301.
Composers not just composing
In the previous newsletter I introduced the lists of composers that had (or have) other professions than composing. Thanks to your feedback these lists have grown. If you are curious what other composers I have put in these list, have a look here: http://www.classical-composers.org/page/instrument.
Let me know if you have additions or corrections.
