Hildegard now officially a saint
Monday, May 14, 2012 - 10:50
Composer reference:
Although the mystic Hildegard von Bingen - who was a composer and had many other talents - had always been revered by many, she was never officially pronounced a Saint in the Catholic Church. On 10 May 2012, however, pope Benedict XVI inscribed her in the catalog of saints. Thus he extended the liturgical cult of St. Hildegard of Bingen (1089-1179) to the universal Church.
Her feast will be celebrated on 17 September, the day of her death, as is common with all saints. The mainn reason for her becoming is saint is that she has been, and still is, an exceptional example of faith.
