Unesco award for Merlijn Twaalfhoven

Dutch composer has won a prestigious Unesco Award. It is given to him for his efforts to transcend the boundaries between people and cultures and unite people through Music.

In the past years Twaalfhoven has organised several projects in places such as the divided Cypriot capital Nicosia, a Slovak gypsy ghetto, the Palestinian West Bank and East Jerusalem. By doing so, he was able to bridge the vast cultural differences through innovative concerts.

The award will be given to Twaalfhoven by Unesco Director General Irina Bokova at the Paris headquarters. He will the be able call himself “Young Artist for intercultural dialogue between the Arab and Western worlds”.
