2010 Grawemeyer Award for York Höller

German composer York Höller has been awarded the 2010 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition. He recieves the prize for his composition “Sphären” (Spheres), which he wrote from 2001 till 2006.

“Sphären” is a six-movement work for orchestra, which had its first performance in 2008 in Cologne, Germany. “The piece is magnificently scored, using a large orchestra to generate colors ranging from the most delicate to the most overwhelming,” said Marc Satterwhite, a University of Louisville music professor who directs the award.
