American composer Roger Nixon, who was especially known for his music for concert band, died on 19 October at the Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, USA. His son Mark said he died from complications from leukemia.
is compositions included many fanfares, marches and ceremonial works. However, he also wrote chamber music, song cycles, as well as an opera based on the Stephen Crane story “The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky.”
For 30 years Roger Nixon also taught in the music department of San Francisco State University. He himself studied with Roger Sessions, Ernest Bloch, and also with Arnold Schoenberg at USC.
