Missa Votiva ZWV 18, for choir, soloists & orchestra by Jan Dismas Zelenka (US Premiere!)
Missa votiva of Czech-German composer Jan Dismas Zelenka was written in Dresden in 1739 as the fulfillment of a vow Zelenka made upon recovering from a severe illness. Like the city of Dresden itself, at the crossroads of northern and central Europe, it showcases all the styles current at the time: choral movements in the style of the concerto, sections in stile antico, and arias worthy of the most recent operas. At times it seems to foreshadow Mozart. ...The Missa votiva is nothing less than a lost masterpiece, strongly recommended for your discovery.
