The 23rd annual concert of Chorus Angelorum will be a "Tour de France." Our main destination is Fauré’s Requiem, but we begin our journey with the ultimate jewel of the French symphonic organ repertoire, the Chorale in A Minor, César Franck’s final opus. To highlight and contrast these two monumental works, we have surrounded them with brief sojourns into different periods of complimentary choral literature -- from the mystical motets of Josquin Desprez and Jan Sweelinck to the spiritual intensity of Duruflé and then the unexpected, delightfully unresolved tonality of Poulenc.
The first half of the concert ends with a rarely performed composition by Camille Saint-Saëns for harp and large instrumental forces, The Morceau de Concert.
