Biography
Collaborated in zarzuelas and other theatrical works in Madrid, lived in Paris for a time (where he was singing teacher to the Empress Eugenie), went to Cuba and was interested/influenced by Creole music, and is said to have been a professor of solfege at the Madrid Conservatoire. His best-known work is the above collection of songs, which includes the well-known ‘La paloma’. Information in Grove 5, New Grove I & II, Baker. Note - name is also spelt Iradier, which doesn’t help when looking him up!
