Music

Orchestral & chamber music.

Life

Rain Worthington has a unique voice within contemporary music. As Kyle Gann noted in Chamber Music magazine, her music “…take(s) ideas of American musical style to a new place – like a walk in a familiar, yet very different park... And isn’t afraid to come up with its own startling conclusions.”

As a composer, she has transited through loft concerts, avant-garde performances spaces and dance clubs, to orchestra recordings. World music, romanticism and minimalism have influenced her compositional style.

Rain’s orchestra compositions have been recorded for ERMMedia’s Masterworks of the New Era and Made in the Americas CD series with Conductor, Robert Ian Winstin, and premiered by the SEM Orchestra with Petr Kotik conducting. Pianist, Max Lifchitz, has recorded her piano music for North/South Recordings.

As an Orff-Schulwerk music teacher, she developed an innovative concert series featuring professional musicians and student percussion ensembles.

She serves as Director of Development for the New York Women Composers and is Co-Director of NetMusicWorks, a contemporary concert music advocacy service.
