Music



Ian Wilson has written over fifty works, including seven concertos, orchestral works, five string quartets, three piano trios and many other chamber pieces. Works have been performed and broadcast throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa by performers such as the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Ulster Orchestra, the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Vogler, Vanbrugh and Endellion Quartets, Barry Douglas, Hugh Tinney, Harry Sparnaay and Gerard McChrystal. His music is published by Universal Edition (London) Ltd. CDs have been released on the Black Box Music label (‘Towards the Far Country’ - string quartets 1-3,BBM 1031), Timbre (‘Seven Last Words’ - piano trios 2&3, DMHCD4) and Chandos (‘Contemporary String Quartets from Ireland’ - includes quartet no.1, CHAN 9295).

Life

Born in Belfast, studied at the University of Ulster, gaining the first doctorate in composition from that institution. Lived in Belgrade for a while before moving to Republic of Ireland where he now lives with his family.
