Life
Mack Wilberg was raised in Castle Dale Utah, and he has one older sister. His father (LaMar) was part owner and operator of a family coal mine (Wilberg Mine) and his mother (Helen) was an elementary school teacher. His father was killed in a machinery accident at the mine when Mack was still a young boy. (The family mine was sold years later to Utah Power and Light and became infamous later on in 1984 as the site of the Wilberg Mine disaster.) Mack took his first piano lessons from Yvonne Jorgensen and then at the age of 10 or 11 started taking piano lessons from Janis Siggurd 30 miles away in Price. He was also a gifted clarinet player. After graduating from high school he served a mission for the LDS Church in Seoul Korea. When he returned home he resumed music studies at Brigham Young University and received his bachelors degree, he then entered graduate studies at USC.
