Music

An eclectic composer, with two main areas of interest: the life, work and ideas of Lewis Carroll (e.g. the full-length choral work "Boojum!" and the chamber work "Snark-Hunting") and the plight of the people of East Timor (e.g. "A Luta Continua" for baritone, girls choir & orchestra). He is a pioneer of audio-visual composition in Australia, and regularly tours doing concerts of audio-visual pieces such as "Welcome to the Hotel Turismo", for cello & computer, "Weapons of Mass Distortion", for clarinet & computer, and "Papua Merdeka", for bass clarinet & computer.

Biography

He did post-graduate studies at the University of York in England (supervisor: Richard Orton). Taught composition, computer music etc at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music from 1974 to 2000. Wesley-Smith now lives in Kangaroo Valley (two hours south of Sydney), where he composes, puts on concerts, and tends ducks.
