Walton's wizardry

I am prompted to write in the wake of learning that Lady Walton died a fortnight or so ago. She was a devoted promoter of her husband's music and always played a prominent part in the Walton Festivals held in the '90s in his home town of Oldham. Her elegant posture and fizzy personality always added to the wit and sparkle of Walton's music on these occasions. May she rest in peace.

Walton’s excentric widow dies

The widow of William Walton, Susana Walton, died on 21 March in her home on the Mediterranean island of Ischia. She was 83 years old.
The couple met at a conference in 1948 in Buenos Aires and married 8 weeks later. After the war the Waltons moved to Ischia, in the Bay of Naples. Susana made it her project to build up the extensive garden around their house (called La Mortella).
