Life

V. Voronov was born on the 3 rd of March 1970 in Moscow, where his musical education startet at the age of seven. After having taken his degree at the Glinka College of Music he continued his studies at the Music Academy of Minsk as a student of Prof. D. Smolsky and finally took all courses with firstclass honors.

Since 1995 he is a member of Prof. K. Meyer’s Composer’s Class at the Academy of Music in Cologne. During this time he took also part in Prof. G. Katzer’s master class at Rheinsberg Castle.

To continue his studies he joined Prof. H.U. Humpert’s Studio of Electronic Music at the Academy of Music in Cologne in the year 2001.

He composed music for various projects related to theatre, radio and film, for example for the Film Theatre in Minsk, The Grend Theatre, the Film Studio at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, the Inter-Theatre in Bochum and for the radio station "Deutsche Welle" in Cologne.

During his musical career Valery Voronov won numerous prizes with his compostions. So he was awarded the Tschaikovsky Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture of Belarus (1992-1994).

In 1994 he was the winner of the Composer’s Competition of Belarus with his Second Piano Sonata.

In 2001, on the occasion of the inauguration of the "Werner-Richard-Auditorium", his Autumn Music, written for thirteen strings, was awarded the first prize.

In the same year he succeeded to win the first prize on the Fifth International W. Lutoslawski Composer’s Contest with his Andante Luminoso for grand orchestra and finally, in 2002, as part of the Vienna Summer Seminar for New Music he gained the prize of the Eighth International Composer’s Contest with his Centaur for flute and grand piano strings.
