Music

He contributed several orchestral compositions and operas in his short life. Unfortunately, his music is rarely heard, with the exception of his beautiful Vals Poetico. This enchanting work, with its fluent and evocative melody, is essential in the repertoire of pianists and a frequent encore piece in orchestral concerts.

Life

Mexican composer of importance, he lived a relatively short life (31 years). By the age of 6 he was playing the violin and by age 10 he had written a cantata, dedicated to the Cura Hidalgo. Villanueva founded the Musical Institute and was a member of the "Group of Six" (Acevedo, Gustavo E. Campa, Ricardo Castro, Carlos J. Menesses, Quezada and Villanueva) being the best known musicians of the time.
