Music
Kevin is a contemporary composer seeking to combine many elements of 20th century music into a single cohesive type of composition. He includes serialistic, polytonal, and thematic elements to create a music that is both new and refreshing.
Life
Kevin received his Bachelor’s degree on May 7th, 2003 from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. While attending UNLV he had the privilege of performing with many ensembles both nationally and internationally, including the President’s Navy Band, the UNLV Wind Orchestra, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Las Vegas Brass Band, a tour of both Japan and Europe and a performance at the 1992 inauguration of former President Bill Clinton.
His formal education included instruction on every major brass instrument, specializing in the Euphonium under the instruction of Dr. James Stivers, with additional instrumental instruction from Tad Suzuki, Hokozono and Bobby Scann. His ability to perform well and sight read quickly allowed Kevin to develop the skills to perform worldwide and gain valuable experience in a variety of musical genres. The Euphonium resembles a ¼ size Tuba with its mellow undertones and singing clarity likened to that of the French Horn. A very popular instrument in England, the Euphonium is considered a young member of the Brass family since its birth was relatively recent.
Currently, Kevin is working on a Masters in Composition at The University of Arizona. Daniel Asia has been extremely valuable in his development as a composer. His plans are to obtain a Masters and a Doctorate in Composition in order to continue his research into the role of music composition in society and it’s relation to the advancement of the arts and sciences.
