Music

The music of Juan Trigos is characterized by a primal “pulsation”, articulated by obsessive rhythmic gears, a “Concertante” relationship between the solo and the different instrumental combinations, and a structural role for percussion instruments (including piano). Similarly, the musical discourse is driven by a manipulation of “reading codes” that serve to transform both original materials or those taken from other sources. His recent work has centered on the creation of a new genre, which he calls “Hemofiction Opera”. “Hemofiction”, is a literary aesthetic invented by his father, the Mexican play writer and novelist Juan Trigos S. Furthermore, relevant is his opera of guitar’s works.

Life

Born February 26, 1965, in Mexico City. The academic training of Juan Trigos includes degrees in Orchestral and Chorus Conducting, Composition, Gregorian Chant and Piano, from leading institutions in Italy and Mexico. His teachers included: Gianpiero Taverna, Franco Gallini and Xavier González (orchestra and chorus conducting), Domenico Bartolucci (basso continuo and antique polyphony chorus conducting), Franco Donatoni, Nicolò Castiglioni and Jesús Villaseñor (composition, analysis, and orchestration), Enzo Stanzani, and Margot Fleites (piano). His experience as a composition teacher is extensive, and includes being Franco Donatoni’s Teaching Assistant at the International Composition Courses and the International Festival of Contemporary Music he organized during four consecutive years (1993–96) in Mexico City.

As a composer Trigos is very active. He was Member of the “Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte” (Mexico) and since June 2006 also Associated composer of the “Canadian Music Centre”.

Juan Trigos has worked with orchestras, chorus and ensembles around all over the world.
