Life
Born in northern Minnesota’s rural (Mesabi Iron Range Taconite mining) community of Aurora to a family of concert pianists, songwriters, vocalists, music conservatory directors, and parade, fair, and festival organizers. The creative and public worlds of Teague predate his own memory.
A self taught pianist, he began supporting himself at age 17 through improvisation at art shows and playing for tips in Sandpoint, ID. There the late musical genius Raphael found hope in the young pianist and instructed Teague through the summer of 1987. Offering a fresh and eccentric approach to the budding composers study of notes, tone, and silence with woodwinds, strings, and percussion.
Teague continued playing piano, keyboards, guitar, and singing in varied Sandpoint and Couer d’Alene bands until 1989 when he was accepted to study classical notation and technique under Hilipi Kantola of Finland’s Helsinki Conservatory of Music. During a major piano, violin, and voice recital, the nineteen-year-old Teague decided to "premier" three original works at risk of expulsion but gaining instead his first 600+ person standing ovation. 1992 found Teague again in Idaho under the tutelage of Music Theory and Composition professor, concert violinist, Gerard Mathes in Couer d’Alene. Mathes brought focus and structure to Teague’s eclectic work.
Teague, in the past 5 years has gone from "coffee shop" musician to bi-regional and international touring and recording artist. Currently performing 5-8 times per week in solo performances to audiences ranging from intimate gatherings to 2,500. A compilation of 7 Teague piano compositions began airing on Radio Free Europe in Prague in the summer of 2000. He completed his first European tour last summer, playing in Czech Republic and Scotland. He will return to eastern and western Europe in the spring of 2002.2001 (to date)
