Life
Of a musical family, he learned to play the clarinet at ten. He traveled widely and settled in Budapest in the 30s, graduating from the Academy of Music in 1936 and becoming a professor there in 1948. In addition to teaching, he has lectured widely and written several volumes, notably about Bártok, whose styles influenced him greatly. The rhythmic element of his work is aggresive, and he has been stimulated by folk music.
