Life
Leon Steward was born in Baytown, Texas in 1959. Receieved degrees in Theory and Compossition and Music Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He has been a band director for the last 30 years, all in Texas. Mr. Steward started by arranging and composing while still in high school. He has written for most all types of instrumental ensembles. He has spent the last 11 years in the San Antonio, Texas area teaching middle school band and also working as music director for his church. Mr. Steward has been awarded runner up in the Humboldt Stae University Brass Sextet competition in 2010 with “The Invasion of America”. He was also the winner in the Butler Symphony orchestral composition contest in 2011 for his piece “The Fermi Paradox” for full orchestra. He lives in Castroville, Texas with his two children who are also musicians.
