Life

Jerome Sorcsek holds degrees in composition from several universities in the eastern United States. He was the first composer-in-residence in a Pennsylvania school through National Endowment for the Arts sponsorship in 1977, and in 1978, he was the first winner of the National Band Association Composition Competition. In 1986, his “Little Symphony for Horns” was a winner of the New Music for Young Ensembles Composition Competition and was premiered in the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York.

He was commissioned for large ensemble music by universities in the United States, and had been commissioned for new works that were performed during “Die Festliche Musiktage” in Uster, Switzerland in 1981 and 1985.

He led orchestras and wind ensembles, often in premiere performances of his works, and as choral conductor, specialized in the music of Carl Orff. He has recorded his music in the Czech Republic with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Los Angeles, California has been his home since 1980.
