Music

Antonio Soler was a monk of Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and also the choir master. He composed much church music, mainly for choir, and for de Royal Court, because El Escorial was also a Royal Palace. Some Masses, two Miseseres (recorded by Hungaroton), quintets for organ and strings, duets for organs, are his main works. (Thanks Jose MX Pajares <jose.pajares(at)sggdph.mma.es>.)

Soler is estimated to have composed more than 200 keyboard sonatas, of which about 120 plus are known; six quintets for strings and keyboard; a considerable number of liturgical compositions; a number of villancicos; six conciertos for two organs (or other keyboard instruments). (Thanks to Mr. Sardonicus)

The Soler Sonatas, originally for piano, were also transcribed for violin and piano by Samuel Marder, not only edited by him. (Thanks to <sammar1(at)optonline.net>)
