Life

Hermann Seidl was born on september 13th, 1958 in Würzburg, Northern Bavaria in Germany.

During the time from 1979 to 1984 he studied Music at the conservatory and musicology at the University of Würzburg. After this he worked as a teacher for music in Erlangen, later in Kitzingen. Since 2002 he has been teaching theory of musical composition as an associate lecturer at the conservatory of Würzburg.

As a composer Hermann Seidl wrote chamber music, works for orchestra and choir, electronic, jazz and rock music for experimental music theatre productions and created audio- visual works together with graphic artists. His first compositions were performed in 1983. Many more performances in Germany and other european countries followed. For his musical work he was awarded the Förderpreis Musik der Sudetendeutschen Landsmannschaft in 1993. In 2002, he won the third prize of the Siegburger Kompositionswettbewerb for the piece „a.b“, composed for recorder and piano and in 2005 the first prize for „3 miniaturen“, composed for 2 bassoons and contrabassoon.

The first publication on CD appeared with Peter Cloos (horn) and Martin Wenning (organ) from Kassel in 1995. The first CD with exclusive own works followed in 1998. A second edition of this CD with the title „Stein und Stille“ („stone and silence“) appeared in 2003. This CD contains chamber music for transverse flute, violoncello, piano, stones and electronics. The cycles „Die Liebe ist ein Hemd aus Feuer“ („love is a shirt of fire“), „Drei Lieder“ („three songs“) and „Bilder der Nacht“ („pictures of the night“) with words by Paul Konrad Kurz for mixed choir, and the cycle „fragmente“ („fragments“) with words by Ursula Haas for mixed choir, are published by „Edition Music Contact“.
