Life
Born in Bern Urs Peter Schneider is a composer and improviser, interpreter and pedagogue. From 1959 until 1966 he studied piano under Walter Lang and Prof. Bruno Seidlhofer and composition under Sandor Veress and Karlheinz Stockhausen in Bern, Cologne and Vienna. In 1968 he founded the ‘Ensemble Neue Horizonte Bern’ which has seen over 800 concerts, radio broadcasts and manifestations to date. There have been twelve recordings produced between the years of 1967 and 2003 on various mediums and partly with a composed programme.
- 1983 — Great Music prize awarded by canton Bern
- 1964 until 1987 — Six further prizes awarded to him as a pianist and composer
- Since 1966 — Lives in Biel
- 1955 until 2004 — Twelve dozen compositions in all genres (over 1200 performances in the whole of Europe, America and Russia)
- Until 2002 — Professor for theory and ensemble at the ‘Musikhochschule Bern’ (Bern School of Music)
An increase has been seen of late in his appearances as a performer, often with his own text compositions.
