Music

Operas: "Peter von Szapáry" (Budapest 1839); "Malwina" (Budapest 1841); "Der Rächer" after Le Cid by Corneille (Budapest 1846); "Melusine" (Darmstadt 1861). Ballet: "Diavolina". Also two Overtures for Orchestra: "Rule Britannia" & "Loreley". Several Lieder and pieces for piano. Piano: 3 sonatas F-dur op. 8, g-moll op. 23, D-dur op. 40 (Mainz 1849); 2 impromptus op. 4 and op. 7; 6 character pieces op. 14; 3 bagatelles op. 22.

Life

Louis Schindelmeisser, in reality called Ludwig Alexander Balthazar was born in Königsberg on the 8th of December 1811, and died in Darmstadt on the 30th of March 1864. He was a composer and well known orchestra conductor. He studied in Berlin with A.B. Marx and then with his step-brother Heinrich Dorn. He met Richard Wagner with whom he made a big friendship. He conducted several orchestras at Salzburg, Graz and Berlin (1837), Budapest (1838-47), Frankfurt, Hamburg and Wiesbaden. In 1853 was Hofkapellmeister at Darmstadt.


[in Dutch] Louis Alexander Schindelmeisser (1811-1864) geboren in Königsberg. Werd Theaterkapelmeester in Salzburg, Innsbruck en Graz. In 1837 dirigent aan het Königsstadter Theater in Berlijn, in 1838 aan het Deutschen Theater in Budapest en in 1847 aan het Stadstheater in Hamburg. Van 1848 tot 1851 dirigent in Frankfurt a.M., van 1851 tot 1853 dirigent in Wiesbaden en van 1853 tot aan zijn dood Hofkapelmeester in Darmstadt. Hij was bevriend met Richard Wagner.
