Schenck is composer of the first Dutch opera ever performed (Hacquart wrote an opera earlier, but it was never played), called “Ceres, Venus and Bacchus” (1686). He also composed for the viola da gamba (sonatas and suites), and chamber works for 2 violins, viola da gamba and bass.
Life
Johan Schenck was a viola da gamba player and composer. He worked in Amsterdam and at the electoral court in Düsseldorf, Germany.
