The Italian composer Giovanni Rovetta was also a singer. He spent his musical life in the St. Mark in Venice, where is father was an instrumentalist. He started as a boy treble, and was appointed bass singer in 1623. From 1615 till 1617 he played in the orchestra. He was also ordained priest around 1623.
On 22 he became assistant Maestro di Capella, next to Monteverdi. After the latter died, he became full Maestro di Capella (21 February 1644), which he remained untill his death.
