He wrote compositions in many genres (opera, symphonic, chamber, piano).

Biography

Studied violin and piano with his father, cello with B. Romberg. Then composition in Munich (1801) followed by piano with Beethoven and composition with Albrechtsberger in Vienna. Became a pianist, and later lived in Paris, Vienna, Kassel, Stockholm and St. Petersburg. Lived in London 1813-1824. After that lived in Frankfurt, but conducted in Aachen 1834-1836.
