- 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Reich
[posted 24 April 2009]The 2009 Pulitzer Prize for music was won by Steve Reich for his composition “Double Sextet”, premiered in Richmond, VA, on 26 March 2008.
The jury describes the composition as “a major work that displays an ability to channel an initial burst of energy into a large-scale musical event, built with masterful control and consistently intriguing to the ear.”
The award is given for a distinguished musical composition by an American that has had its first performance or recording in the United States during the year. The prize comes with a sum of $10,000.

- Polar Music Prize 2007 for Steve Reich
[posted 26 January 2007]The winners of the 2007 Polar Music Prize are composer Steve Reich and jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins .
The prize, worth $143,000, will be handed out by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at a ceremony in Stockholm on May 21.
According to the Royal Academy of Music, which selects the winners, Reich had "transferred questions of faith, society and philosophy into a hypnotic sounding music that has inspired musicians and composers of all genres."

- Steve Reich wins award in Japan
[posted 8 September 2006]Last Thursday the American minimal music composer Steve Reich won the Japanese Praemium Imperiale award for music. The prize of 15 million yen (about $130,000) will be presented in Tokyo on 18 October, together with the other winners (for architecture, theatre and film, painting and sculpture). Steve Reich was named a honoree by the imperial family's Japan Arts Association.
