Life

Rautavaara studied at the University of Helsinki and at the Sibelius-Academy Helsinki, in Vienna, in the U.S.A. (as a pupil of Vincent Persechetti, Aaron Copland and Roger Sessions), in Switzerland (as a pupil of Wladimir Vogel) and Cologne, Germany (as a pupil of Rudolf Petzold). Today he lives in Helsinki.
