Qi Shaofan is a student of the Beijing Institute of Technology, as well as a largely self-taught composer with at least 1000 pieces of work, including concertos, solo piano pieces, chamber works, orchestral works, and arrangements of other works. His style is much influenced by the Russian composers such as Prokofiev and Kabalevsky. Traditional Chinese tunes can also be found in his works.
