Biography
Won first prize at Paris Conservatoire in 1849. Travelled extensively in Europe and Middle East 1851-55. Then in France till 1860 with concerts also in UK. Travelled with Rene Douay to Australia in 1861. Concerts in Australia and New Zealand until 1864. Travelled to Ceylon, India, Pakistan, South Africa 1864-68. Returned to UK and France 1868. Concerts in Europe (mainly France) until 1883 including Conductor of Casino Orchestra at Bolounge sur mer 1876-79. Also at St. Malo where his father was head of music at the College from 1850-1880. Returned to Australia in 1883 and mainly taught (also State examiner) in Sydney. Died there in 1898.
