Life

The Dutch composer Maurice Pirenne was also an organist and a priest. He studied organ and composition at the conservatory of Tilburg, The Netherlands, and theology anf philosophy at the seminary of Haaren. After he beacame priest he continued his musical studies at the Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra in Rome.

Later he became teacher Gregorian Chant and theory at the Brabants Conservatory, and the Dutch Institute for Church Music in Utrecht. Later he also taught organ (also at the Arnhem Conservatory).

From 1965 till 1991 Pirenne was rector cantus at the Schola Cantorum of the Sint-Janskathedraal in ’s-Hertogenbosch. In 1991 he became organist at the Sint-Janskathedraal.
