Music
Largely celebrated for his choral works, such as ‘The Hills’ (1944) and ‘The Trees So High’ (1931) - the latter being more a four movement symphonic poem with choral finale.
Life
Studied at Cambridge 1919-22 and at the Royal College of Music, London (1922-25). Taught at the RCM till 1938, when he returned to Cambridge, becoming Professor of Music there 1946-62.
