Life
Pupil of Chadwick and then studied with Rheinberger in Munich. Worked as a choirmaster in New York before being appointed Professor at Yale, where his most famous pupil was Charles Ives. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Parker was perhaps the most internationally successful US composer: his oratorio ‘Hora Novissima’ was performed at the Three Choirs Festival in England, and his opera ‘Mona’ was produced at the Metropolitan Opera in 1912.
