Began musical training by studying piano. Was exposed to electronic instruments
while in high school in 1970, and became infatuated with a wide variety of
musical styles, progressive rock on the one hand, and Penderecki on the other.
Was swept up in the latter part of the hippie generation after high school, and
started hitchhiking around the country, landing in Texas, California, and
finally returning to Tennessee for a brief time. Was invited by an acquaintance
met while in Calif. to travel to New York to
play keyboards for a new Rock Opera called "Trilemma" in 1976/77. Soon
thereafter decided to continue with musical education, so began studies at
Manhattan School of Music with Elias Tanenbaum. Interest in electronic music
was paramount, thanks to Tanenbaum influence. Graduated in 1983. Continued
studies at Columbia University with Jack Beeson and George Edwards. Also became
