An organist, founder, director and teacher in music school in Płock city, organiser of music life in Płock and its surroundings, academy lecturer, professor, deen and rector of State Higher Music School in Warsaw, but first of all the composer writing all types of instrumental and vocal music.
Biography
Prof. Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz was born on October 17, 1916 in Sierpc and he died on November 21, 1998 in Warsaw. He was a composer, organist and lecturer. Since 1936, he stud-ied music at the Warsaw Conservatory of Music in organ class of Bronisław Rutkowski and graduated in 1943. In 1943 he started to study composition under Kazimierz Sikorskiand finished it in 1951 in Łódź. In the meantime, after leaving Warsaw in 1945 he lived in Płock city, where he founded Elementary and Secondary Music Schools. At the same time he was active organising concerts, founding non-professional choirs and teaching conductors in Płock and in the Mazowsze region. In 1947 he made his debut as an organist virtuoso, later fre-quently broadcasted on Polish Radio. He left Płock in 1949 and moved to Łódź. Between 1949-1959 he taught at the Secondary School of Music and State College of Music in Łódź and since 1954 also at the State College of Music in Warsaw. Since 1959 he has lived in Warsaw. Paciorkiewicz started to work in the State College of Music, then named Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he lead composition class and taught theory of music. In the sixties, he became a Dean of the Composition, Theory and Conducting Department and in 1969 he became Rector of the Academy. Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz received several prizes for his creative work, as well as for his teaching.
The artistic work of Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz includes all genres of instrumental and vocal music. Among his main compositions are the following: 4 symphonies, 14 concertos - for piano, violin, viola, cello, harpsichord, harp, organ, flute, oboe, trumpet, trombone and 2 vio-lins and orchestra; 2 string quartets, 4 quintets - for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon; sonatas for violin, viola, cello and piano., 3 operas, 1 balletand oratorio "De Revolutionibus". Besides Paciorkiewicz wrote chamber compositions, music for organ, wind bands as well as for solo instruments and a capella not counting miniatures for children and film and theatre music.
