Life
Studied music in Berlin, Germany from he was 18. He had a strong national identity, which strongly influenced his music. He was a cousin of the poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, and had a close co-operation with him. He also became a close friend of Edvard Grieg, who shared many of Nordraak’s views on the importance of Norwegian folk music as a source of inspiration. In 1865 he founded (together with Edvard Grieg, Emil Hornemann and Gottfred Matthison-Hansen) the music association "Euterpe" in Copenhagen, which ha d as its goal to promote Scandinavian music. Died of tuberculosis in Berlin, only 24 years old.
