Music
Mr. Noble has composed over 63 works, including piano sonatas, chamber music, two works for band and two symphonies. The Quartet for Four B-Flat Clarinets was composed for the following reasons: 1) the B-Flat clarinet is the most common clarinet and is also a popular instrument 2) the composer majored in the instrument 3) the clarinet has a large range and much technical capability 4) a work for four B-Flat clarinets is not too common.. The work is in four movements and was composed from July 4, 1992 to October 24, 1992. The playing time is about 20 minutes. Although it is for advanced high school or college-level performers because of some challenging parts, this quartet is melodic and playable with practice. It uses a clear thematic structure in the classic manner. J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are the composer’s greatest teachers and inspiration.
