Life

Studied in Barcelona and Paris, where he became piano professor at the Scola Cantorum in 1906. After short stays in Cuba an Berlin, he settled in Brussels and later in Paris again.

Joaquin Nin Castellanos was born in Havana, Cuba, when the island was a Spanish colony, but when he died in 1949 in Havana, Cuba was already an independent republic. His son Nin Culmellis also a composer.

Joaquín Nin y Castellanos was also married to minor opera singer Rosa Culmell and was the father of not only composer and pianist Joaquín Nin Culmell, but also businessman Thorvald Nin and famous literary diarist, actress and author Anaïs Nin.
