Editorial Review:Product Description:Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) is famous for his statement that God is dead and his provocative account of Master and Slave moralities and for the fact that Adolf Hitler and the Nazis claimed that Nietzsche was one of their great inspirations. Were the Nazis right to do so--or did they misappropriate Nietzsche's philosophy? Ockham's Razor Publishing is now proud to offer the DVD documentary Nietzsche and the Nazis: A Personal View by Dr. Stephen Hicks. In this two hour and forty-five minute documentary containing over 400 images Professor Hicks asks and answers the following questions: What were the key elements of Hitler and the National Socialists political philosophy? How did the Nazis come to power in a nation as educated and civilized as Germany? What was Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy the philosophy of Live Dangerously and That Which Does Not Kill Us Makes Us Stronger ? And to what extent did Nietzsche's philosophy provide a foundation for the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis? In Nietzsche and the Nazis Professor Hicks analyzes Nietzsche's philosophy and Nazi theory and practice and proposes his answer to the hotly-contested question: Was Nietzsche the intellectual father of the Nazis? Written and Narrated by Stephen Hicks Ph.D. Directed and Edited by John Barrett and Christopher Vaughan Research and Project Management by Virginia Murr Sound and Music by John Barrett and John ParsonSystem Requirements:Run Time: 165 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DOCUMENTARIES/MISC. This is more a lecture course on DVD than a documentary. There are plenty of helpful illustrations and changes in backdrop that make it a joy to watch, but it's still basically Professor Hicks lecturing to us. Thankfully, he's an excellent lecturer. Still, the "documentary" is low-tech, made by Hicks and a few collaborators and assistants. Professor Hicks does an excellent job of setting the historical context and exploring Nietzsche's philosophy. He does both in considerable detail over a three ...

A thorough and thoughtful analysis of the causes of the rise of National Socialism. Hicks examines fascinating correlations (and differences) between the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany. A "must see" for history or philosophy buffs.

Last weekend I had the good fortune to watch this fascinating, informative, and very disturbing DVD.
I am an avid fan of the History Channel and other forums exploring the theme that ideas have consequences but this piece of work was better than nearly everything else along these lines I have seen.
The Nazis, who murdered roughly 12 million people -- among them the 6 million plus or minus Jews we have all heard of -- were a really vicious bunch. But what is more interesting ...

I have to say that when I finished watching this film I was a little disappointed. Hicks provides an extensive history of the rise of the Nazi Party and a thorough overview of Nazi philosophy. He also provides an in depth overview of Nietzsche's philosophy, and a solid analytical discussion of the parallels and differences between the two philosophies. In short, he provides 5 reasons to suggest that major parallels existed (e.g. Nietzsche's support of war as means of cultivating "greatness") and 5 major ...
